As the gentle spring breezes caresses the earth, the Opening Ceremony of the 2024 Spring Class of the BUPT-emlyon EMBA Program took place on April 25th at the School of Economics and Management, Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications. Here, students will transcend borders and blend the cultures of China and France, embarking on a new educational journey with a global perspective. The ceremony, held in a solemn yet vibrant atmosphere, gathered 55 students from various industries, each eager to quench their thirst for knowledge and envision a bright future, ready to write their own remarkable life chapters.

SU Sen, Vice President of Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications, warmly welcomed the attendees and new students, highlighting the challenges and opportunities brought about by changing times. He emphasized the revolutionary impact of artificial intelligence on people's lives and work, stating that new technologies like ChatGPT and AI not only drive social innovation but also place higher demands on students' comprehensive qualities. He urged everyone to continually learn and enhance their capabilities to navigate the complexities of the business world.

Mr. Su then recounted the illustrious history and profound heritage of BUPT. As a university listed by the "Project 211," "985 Innovation Platform," and recognized as a "Double First-Class" institution, it has cultivated a deep national spirit with its 60-year history, characterized by strong IT backgrounds, distinct academic strengths, and clear educational practices. The university has consistently nurtured exceptional talents for the nation, keeping pace with major national strategic needs. In recent years, it has improved its talent development mechanisms and strengthened integration with industry, having been selected as one of the first universities for the national pilot reform of engineering graduate programs and continually advancing the special national project for training high-level urgent talents. The international level of educational services has also been consistently enhanced.
Speaking on the BUPT-emlyon EMBA program, Mr. Su stressed its significance and uniqueness. The program, developed over many years, boasts of a refined training mechanism, combining top-tier faculty and research achievements from both institutions. With a core philosophy of “Cultivating Pioneers of Digital Intelligence in the Makers Era”, the program integrates innovative consciousness, internet thinking, and entrepreneurial spirit into its curriculum, aimed at enhancing senior managers' strategic decision-making, leadership skills, and global perspectives.

At the start of the ceremony, Isabelle HUAULT, Executive President & Dean of emlyon Business School, extended a warm congratulations to the new students. She noted that the school holds a leading position in the global business education landscape, having earned the prestigious AACSB, EQUIS, and AMBA accreditations. The Global EMBA program ranked 24th in the 2023 QS Global EMBA rankings and also achieved a commendable 36th position in the Financial Times global rankings.

She went on to detail how the school has upgraded its GEMBA program’s digital transformation module and launched the “Resonance 2028” strategic plan, in order to adapt to the trend of digital transformation. This plan rests on five pillars: Academic excellence, Entrepreneurial spirit, Social and environmental commitment, Hybrid knowledge, and Resonance with society, aiming to cultivate a new generation of entrepreneurs with a global perspective. Additionally, the BUPT-emlyon EMBA actively focuses on key knowledge areas such as artificial intelligence, data, humanities and social sciences, design thinking, and soft skills, providing students with interdisciplinary experiential learning opportunities.
As a bridge for Sino-French exchange and cooperation, emlyon Business School has fostered the integration of the two countries' cultures and business development, offering graduates a broad professional platform. The 60th anniversary of Sino-French diplomatic relations and the Year of Cultural and Tourism brings more opportunities for the school’s development. Finally, Isabelle HUAULT encouraged the students to cherish their learning opportunities, fully utilize the school’s resources, and lay a solid foundation for their careers, aspiring to become business leaders of the future.

Wu Shengtao, representative of the emlyon North China Alumni Association, fondly recounted his experiences during his GDBA studies at emlyon business school. He chose to further his education at emlyon because of the school's outstanding reputation in business education and its diverse, open, and inclusive learning environment. Throughout his studies here, he received meticulous guidance from his mentors, which sharpened his rigorous logical thinking and enabled him to apply his knowledge practically, truly embodying the principle of learning for practical application. Currently, as artificial intelligence leads global changes, the BUPT-emlyon EMBA program stands out with its focus on digitalization and intelligence, boasting of rich teaching resources and high-quality faculty. Additionally, the program offers numerous practical opportunities through forums, salons, and other activities.

Yuan Wukui, class president of the EMBA 2023 Spring cohort, extended a warm welcome to the new students. He gave them a heads up about how they will engage with diverse industries and hear varied perspectives, enriching their educational journey at the BUPT-emlyon EMBA program. The program brings together exceptional faculty and alumni, offering valuable knowledge and practical opportunities. Additionally, corporate visits will provide students with a deeper understanding of traditional manufacturing companies, leading energy firms, and top internet conglomerates, broadening their strategic and management perspectives. The BUPT-emlyon EMBA is not only an academic institution but also a vibrant and challenging platform. Students will participate in activities such as the Gobi Desert challenge and other competitive sports to enrich their learning experience.
He encouraged the students to actively participate in sports to enhance their health and focus. In a challenging societal context, acquiring knowledge in mid-life is a rare opportunity, and he hoped that students would cherish their time, continually grow, and explore their potential to the fullest.

Fan Zhen, representative of the new cohort of the EMBA 2024 Spring class, shared his reflections on three themes: recognizing economic cycles, returning to studies after gaining rich experiences, and maintaining physical fitness to enjoy life. He emphasized that as witnesses and beneficiaries of China’s economic prosperity, we should adeptly recognize that the current economic cycle may enter a phase of recession or downturn. In this context, we need to act accordingly and proactively enhance our abilities to face potential challenges. He further noted that during fluctuating economic cycles, seizing additional opportunities and engaging in systematic learning and practical application of theories are crucial. Through learning, we can improve our ability to judge and think independently, thereby enhancing our professional levels and ethical standards. Additionally, learning helps us resist external restlessness, maintaining inner peace and steadfastness. Studying and exercising are not only effective ways to enhance the length and breadth of life, but also strategies to cope with economic fluctuations.
